Author Gillian Flynn, known for Gone Girl, and filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, director of Requiem for a Dream, have joined forces on an original erotic thriller currently developing at Sony Pictures.

Flynn is penning the script, while Aronofsky is set to produce through his Protozoa Pictures banner and is expected to take on directing duties as well. The project is backed by 1.21, the company behind major titles including Elvis and the horror feature Together.

Story specifics are being tightly guarded, but the film marks the first collaboration between Flynn and Aronofsky. Flynns previous credits include adaptations of Sharp Objects and Dark Places, as well as the screenplay for Widows. She is currently at work on a reimagining of Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman with Tim Burton attached to direct.

Aronofsky recently completed production on the Austin Butlerled thriller Caught Stealing for Sonys Columbia Pictures. His notable directing work includes Black Swan, The Wrestler, Noah, Mother! and The Whale. He is also producing the horror film Pendulum, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Phoebe Dynevor and Norman Reedus.

1.21 is producing the picture with Andrew Mittman overseeing, alongside executive producers Kai Dolbashian and Darby Kealey.

The collaboration between Gillian Flynn and Darren Aronofsky represents a significant convergence of literary and cinematic talent in the thriller genre. Flynn, known for her sharp, character-driven narratives, is writing the script, while Aronofsky is expected to direct and produce through Protozoa Pictures.

This project is notable as the first direct collaboration between the two creatives, combining Flynn's experience with psychological tension and Aronofsky's distinctive visual and narrative style. While story details remain confidential, the involvement of 1.21 and executive producers Andrew Mittman, Kai Dolbashian, and Darby Kealey indicates strong studio backing.

Both Flynn and Aronofsky bring a track record of commercially and critically successful work.
