Gwyneth Paltrow recently spoke about her upbringing with parents Bruce Paltrow and Blythe Danner, describing it as very privileged during an interview discussing her latest film, Marty Supreme.
In the conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Paltrow, 53, laughed when asked about director Josh Safdies comment in Vogue that he was seeking someone with a landed gentry quality for the role. It must be a quality that I give off, she remarked. I come from a very WASPy mother with Mayflower-ish roots, daughter of the American Revolution. Epigenetically, maybe some of that is there. I was a very privileged kidUpper East Side, great schools, all the things. So some of what he sees, which Ive also been criticized for my whole life, is real.
Paltrows father, Bruce Paltrow, was a television director and producer who passed away in 2002 at age 58, and her mother, Blythe Danner, is an Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress. Gwyneths younger brother, Jake Paltrow, is a filmmaker who most recently released June Zero in 2022.
Gwyneths acting career began in 1989 with the TV movie High, written and directed by her father, and she later won an Academy Award in 1998 for Shakespeare in Love. She is the mother of two, daughter Apple, 21, and son Moses, 19, with ex-husband Chris Martin. She is now married to television producer Brad Falchuk.
In Marty Supreme, Gwyneth stars alongside Timothe Chalamet, who plays Marty Mauser, an aspiring professional table tennis player in the 1950s. Paltrow portrays Kay Stone, a fictional actress whose path crosses with Marty as he pursues his career. She shared that her brother Jake strongly encouraged her to join the film, describing the project as an intriguing opportunity during a transitional phase after her children left home.
Marty Supreme is scheduled for release in theaters on December 25.
