Halle Berry criticizes Gavin Newsom for ignoring women amid rumored presidential run

Halle Berry has sharply criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom, suggesting he may not be fit for the presidency after he vetoed a menopause-related bill for the second consecutive year. As speculation grows around Newsoms potential 2028 White House run, the Catwoman star voiced her concerns during a passionate address at The New York Times DealBook conference.

In my home state of California, Governor Gavin Newsom has rejected our menopause bill not once, but twice, Berry, 59, told attendees in New York City on Wednesday. That may be temporary, as he wont be governor forever. But his disregard for women, half the population, especially in midlife, suggests he probably shouldnt be our next president either.

Berry has been openly critical of Newsoms stance on the Menopause Care Equity Act, which aimed to expand healthcare access and education for women experiencing menopause. Despite the bill passing through the state legislature, Newsom vetoed it, citing concerns that it was too broad, though Berry countered that insurance costs would not be significantly affected.

In her recent Time Magazine column, Berry described the veto as evidence of a failure of Gov. Newsoms commitment to women. During her 15-minute talk in New York, she urged Newsom and other policymakers to prioritize womens health, advocating for greater research and better care options.

While Berry expressed disappointment in Newsoms handling of womens health issues, the governors firm opposition to former President Donald Trump and his policies continues to appeal to a broad segment of voters, including younger men and some Republicans, fueling speculation about a potential 2028 presidential campaign. Newsom has previously admitted he fears Trump may attempt a third term in office.
