After a wait of over four years, HBO has officially set the return of the hit teen drama Euphoria. The network announced that the third season, created by Sam Levinson, will premiere in April 2026. The second season concluded in February 2022.
The upcoming season will begin with a significant time jump, and Levinson described it as "our best season yet," offering insights into the characters lives at the start of the new episodes. Speaking at an HBO Max presentation in London, he explained, "Five years felt like a natural place because if theyd gone to college theyd be out of college at that time." He added, "We basically pick up Rue [Zendaya] south of the border in Mexico, in debt to [drug dealer] Laurie [Martha Kelly], trying to come up with some very innovative ways to pay it off."
Levinson also confirmed a major plot point: Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) will get married. "Cassie is living in the suburbs with Nate, theyre engaged, and shes very addicted to social media and envious of what appears to be the big lives that all of her high school classmates are living at this point in time," Levinson said. "I will say that Cassie and Nate do in fact get married. Im confirming it. And I promise that it will be an unforgettable night."
The creator shared updates on other characters as well. Jules (Hunter Schafer) is pursuing a career in art school while trying to avoid responsibility. Maddy (Alexa Demie) is working at a Hollywood talent agency and running side hustles, and Lexi (Maude Apatow) is an assistant to a showrunner played by Sharon Stone.
Returning cast members include Eric Dane, Colman Domingo, Chloe Cherry, Dominic Fike, and Nika King. New faces joining season 3 are Rosala, Trisha Paytas, Natasha Lyonne, Danielle Deadwyler, Eli Roth, Marshawn Lynch, and Sam Trammell.
Some past cast members will not return. Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat Hernandez, bid a tearful farewell after season 2, and the late Angus Cloud, who portrayed Fezco, passed away in July 2023.
Jacob Elordi, discussing Nates story arc, said the characters main goal in season 3 is simply to "survive," signaling "the end of hubris" and "the end of arrogance." He added, "It's a real treat to be a part of that show, and to play the quote-unquote bad guy. It's always more fun. You don't wanna play some morally superior, world-saving loser."
Author's Opinion: Euphoria Season 3 – New Directions, Same Drama
After a long wait of over four years, fans of Euphoria can finally breathe easy, as HBO has confirmed the premiere of season 3 for April 2026. The anticipation surrounding this return is palpable, especially given the significant time jump that will mark the start of the new season. This time leap provides an opportunity to explore the characters' lives after their high school years, and the stakes are clearly higher. With Sam Levinson promising that this season will be "our best season yet," it’s clear the creators are pushing for something bold and fresh.
The major time shift, with Rue now south of the border in Mexico, and Cassie and Nate headed toward marriage, marks a clear shift in the show's tone. It appears the characters are attempting to navigate the complexities of adult life while struggling with their own issues and addictions. For Rue, this is a literal struggle, as she finds herself in debt to a drug dealer and trying to figure out how to pay it off. Meanwhile, Cassie’s obsession with social media and her envy of her peers highlight the ongoing exploration of societal pressures and personal insecurities that Euphoria has always done so well.
Levinson’s promise of unforgettable moments, particularly with Cassie and Nate’s marriage, seems to tease a dramatic turning point for the couple. However, it’s important to note the ongoing absence of some key cast members. Barbie Ferreira’s departure after season 2 leaves a gap, and the loss of Angus Cloud (Fezco) to tragic circumstances has undoubtedly left a hole in the heart of the show. These changes mean that the focus will shift even more to the remaining characters and the new faces, including big names like Rosalía, Natasha Lyonne, and Marshawn Lynch.
What’s clear is that the upcoming season will not just continue the characters' stories; it will evolve them. As Jacob Elordi points out, Nate's journey in season 3 is all about survival, signaling a shift away from the arrogant, entitled figure he once was. This transformation might be just what the show needs to keep things from feeling repetitive and give the characters new challenges to overcome. Overall, season 3 seems poised to dive deeper into both the personal and emotional complexities that have made Euphoria such a compelling watch. Fans will certainly have a lot to look forward to in 2026.
