Friends and colleagues have remembered an obstetrician whose contributions have left a lasting mark on the world and supported countless newborns. Professor Tim Draycott, who served at Southmead Hospital in Bristol from 2022 to 2025, passed away on 24 November following a sudden illness.
A spokesperson for North Bristol NHS Trust highlighted that his work has "improved outcomes for mothers and babies on a global scale." They emphasized: "He believed that the best results come when doctors, midwives, nurses, and support staff collaborate and train together. This approach represents his lasting and meaningful legacy."
Professor Draycott created PROMPT, an innovative training program for midwives, aimed at helping them respond effectively to signs of fetal distress during childbirth. This initiative has benefited countless families, according to the trust spokesperson.
"Tim had a unique talent for making everyone he encountered feel valued and significant," the spokesperson added. "He delivered hundreds of babies, positively influenced countless lives, advanced numerous careers, and opened doors internationally."
Throughout his career, Professor Draycott earned multiple accolades, including Hospital Doctor of the Year and the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Excellence in Education, among other honors.
