A 27-year-old man has been taken into custody after a high-speed collision left an infant and her toddler brother with severe injuries in San Bernardino, California.
Authorities say Chester Lamont Gordon was arrested on Friday, December 5, after allegedly striking a family walking along Arrowhead Avenue on the evening of December 1. The impact reportedly knocked 3-year-old Alonso to the ground while the stroller carrying his baby sister, Alina, was dragged for roughly 350 feet.
Investigators seized Gordons vehicle, and he now faces charges of felony hit-and-run and reckless driving.
Both children were rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. According to their family, Alonso is recovering from a broken leg, while the infant suffered a brain bleed and a ruptured spleen. Although they have been released from intensive care, they remain hospitalized as they continue to recover.
The childrens aunt, Yesenia Burgos, launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover mounting medical costs. In her statement, she described the crash as a devastating moment that upended the familys life in an instant, emphasizing the emotional and financial strain they now face.
She expressed hope that community support will allow the parents to focus solely on their childrens healing, noting that all contributions will go toward medical care, transportation, and essential living expenses during the long recovery ahead.
