Intoxicated Raccoon Discovered in Liquor Store Amuses Onlookers

In an event that's anything but ordinary, local authorities responded to a peculiar situation at the Ashland ABC Store. A raccoon had somehow broken into the liquor store, creating chaos that can only be described as wild.

According to a Facebook post from Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter, officers were called on Saturday morning regarding what they humorously called a "Black Friday break-in." Upon arrival, the officer discovered the intruder had rummaged through multiple shelves of alcohol before falling asleep in the stores bathroom.

The unexpected culprit? A heavily intoxicated raccoon. "Officer Martin safely secured our masked visitor and transported him to the shelter to sober up before further questioning," the shelter shared, recounting the amusing incident.

The post quickly drew attention, with many social media users expressing delight at the mischievous raccoon. Comments ranged from sympathetic to humorous, with some joking about the animal's hangover and relating to its night of indulgence. "That's a big sploot after a hard night," one user quipped. Another noted, "Dang, he was drunk as a skunk. At least he made it to the bathroom some of us humans cant even do that!"

Fortunately, the raccoon was unharmed. After a few hours of rest at the shelter and showing no injuries beyond likely fatigue, it was safely released back into the wild. The shelter added a lighthearted note: "Hopefully, he learned that breaking and entering isnt the best idea."
