Is ‘Ripple’ Coming Back for Season 2? Explanation of Netflix Show’s Finale

Warning: Major spoilers for Ripple Season 1 ahead.

The Netflix series Ripple, which premiered on December 3, tells the story of how strangers lives can intertwine in the most unexpected ways. The show follows Walter (Frankie Faison), Nate (Ian Harding), Kris (Julia Chan), and Aria (Sydney Agudong), whose individual paths collide and create lasting impacts on each others lives.

After Walter loses his wife suddenly, he finds comfort and connection at Lumi, a wine bar run by Nate. Kris, a recently dismissed music executive, also seeks solace at Lumi and quickly forms a bond with Nate. Nates own life is complicated: his marriage is struggling, and a random accident caused by Ariadropping a rock from her balconylands him in the hospital, where he discovers he has cancer. Aria, a singer wrestling with personal struggles and her relationship with John (Robert Bazzocchi), experiences a turning point after meeting Kris.

Season 1 Finale Summary

The Season 1 finale is emotionally charged and full of life-altering developments. After recovering from a serious infection, Nate is accepted into a clinical trial in Houston. This opportunity comes after the heartbreaking death of Finn (Isabella Astbury), a young friend he met during chemotherapy. Though Kris wants to join him immediately, Nate decides to pause their budding relationship due to timing.

Meanwhile, Walter reflects on the support he found at Lumi following his wifes death and decides to partner with Nate to keep the wine bar running. Aria, determined to pursue her music career, embarks on a tour despite tension with John. A misunderstanding occurs when she overhears John speaking on the phone, thinking he is talking about her. In reality, he is discussing a colleague, and the moment resolves without drama.

Before leaving, Nate gives Kris a bamboo plant and a letter, symbolizing the hope that their connection will continue. He expresses the sentiment that their journey together is only just beginning.

Possibility of Season 2

Netflix has not yet confirmed whether Ripple will return for a second season. The first seasons conclusion leaves multiple storylines unresolved, including Nates clinical trial and Arias tour. This open-ended finale sets the stage for exploring these characters further and potentially introducing new faces.

With the storylines still unfolding, Season 2 could dive into the next chapters of their lives and deepen the connections established in the first season. As Nate aptly remarks, the journey is just getting started.

Author's Opinion: Ripple's Season 1 Finale and the Future of the Series

The finale of Ripple's first season leaves a complex mix of emotions and unfinished business. While the series succeeds in portraying the intertwining lives of its characters, it also leaves us wondering about the next steps for Nate, Aria, Walter, and Kris. With Nate's clinical trial up in the air and Aria's music career in limbo, the narrative is primed for further exploration.

What stands out is the sense of hope and potential for growth that persists despite the challenges the characters face. Nate’s decision to pause his relationship with Kris, while heartbreaking, demonstrates the emotional maturity required to prioritize life’s unpredictable moments. Similarly, Aria's decision to pursue her music, despite misunderstandings with John, shows that growth often comes with personal sacrifice.

The open-ended nature of the finale begs for a continuation. The unresolved threads—Nate’s treatment, Aria’s tour, and Walter’s new partnership—set the stage for deeper character development in a potential second season. For now, it remains unclear whether Netflix will renew the show, but the emotional investment in these characters will undoubtedly make fans eager to see where their journeys lead.

In conclusion, the series leaves audiences with a sense of anticipation for what’s next. The characters' lives are just beginning to evolve, and the emotional complexities they face promise to offer more compelling drama in future seasons.
