Dr. Addison Montgomery is set to make her return to Seattle in the second half of Greys Anatomy Season 22, with Kate Walsh reprising her iconic role on the long-running medical drama.
Walsh originally appeared in the series during Season 1 as the estranged spouse of Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), creating tension in his developing relationship with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). She became a regular cast member in Season 2 when Addison joined the hospital staff at Seattle Grace, attempting to revive her romance with Derek despite complications involving Mark Sloan (Eric Dane), Dereks former friend and Addisons former lover.
Their marriage eventually ended, and Walsh departed as a regular after Season 3. Nevertheless, she continued to appear periodically on the show, including leading the spinoff Private Practice, and returning for multiple episodes between Seasons 4 and 8. Her latest appearances were in Seasons 18 and 19, following nearly a decade away from the main series. During her most recent stint, Addison returned to assist Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) with training new OB/GYN residents in the episode Training Day.
According to reports, Walsh is scheduled to appear on Greys Anatomy again in an episode airing Thursday, January 29, although specific plot details about her storyline have not been disclosed. The show resumes the second half of Season 22 on Thursday, January 8, at 10/9c. The fall finale ended with a cliffhanger involving Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), who was in the middle of a C-section while undergoing a heart operation with Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill).
Walsh is among several former cast members returning in Season 22, following Kelly McCrearys return as Maggie Pierce and Jesse Williams comeback as Jackson Avery.
