Kate Walsh is making a comeback on Grey's Anatomy, and here's what I'm hoping to see

The upcoming episodes of Greys Anatomy Season 22 are generating excitement, as fans await the continuation of the drama that left viewers on a cliffhanger in the fall finale. While audiences are concerned about Jo and her babies, a major announcement has thrilled longtime fans: Kate Walsh is returning as Addison Montgomery.

Walshs character will appear in the January 29 episode titled Strip That Down, which marks the fourth episode of the second half of Season 22. Details about her storyline remain under wraps, but it appears to be a one-episode guest appearance. Many fans hope her return will focus on reconnecting with Amelia Shepherd, who is still coping with the aftermath of Monica Beltrans death and had recently announced a sabbatical.

Amelia, introduced on the spinoff Private Practice alongside Walsh, has faced numerous personal struggles, including addiction and trauma. Her bond with Addison makes a reunion especially compelling, and fans anticipate meaningful interactions between the two characters as they navigate recent challenges.

This marks Walshs first appearance on Greys Anatomy since Season 19, where she participated in a storyline addressing womens reproductive rights. Addison Montgomery was originally a main character in Seasons 2 and 3 before leading Private Practice. Since then, she has returned sporadically, including a notable appearance in Season 18 that included a powerful scene with Meredith Grey.

Season 22 has already brought back several familiar faces, including Kate Burton as Merediths mother, Kelly McCreary as Maggie Pierce, and Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery, creating a wave of nostalgic reunions. The new episodes continue Thursday, January 8, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC, with streaming available the next day on Hulu.
