Walsh responded with enthusiasm, adding, Here we go, alongside a heart-eyed emoji.
The actress first joined the series in 2005 during its debut season and remained a core cast member until 2007, when she departed to lead the spin-off series Private Practice, appearing in all six of its seasons. Her upcoming appearance, scheduled for the Jan. 29 episode titled Strip That Down, will be her first time on the show since her recurring role throughout seasons 18 and 19 between 2021 and 2023.
Before the announcement, showrunner Meg Marinis hinted that season 22 would include appearances from familiar faces and noted that Meredith Grey would be involved in several of these storylines.
Walsh has expressed gratitude for the warm reception she received during her previous return, saying that revisiting the character felt beautiful and deeply emotional after years of fans asking whether she would ever come back.

The announcement of Kate Walsh reprising her role as Dr. Addison Montgomery marks a significant moment for Grey's Anatomy fans. Her return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in season 22 highlights the show's continued commitment to bringing back iconic characters, reinforcing long-term viewer engagement.
Walsh's previous tenure on the series, from 2005 to 2007, and her subsequent lead role on Private Practice, established her as a pivotal figure in the Shondaland universe. Her recurring appearances in seasons 18 and 19 demonstrated the character’s enduring popularity and set the stage for this upcoming episode on January 29, titled "Strip That Down."
