Keke Palmer Explores 'The Suburbs' in Teaser for Peacock Series Based on Cult Classic Film

Keke Palmer takes center stage in a fresh teaser for Peacocks upcoming mystery-comedy series, The Burbs. The show is a modern reimagining of the 1989 cult favorite horror-comedy originally led by Tom Hanks.

In this adaptation, Palmer portrays a woman who relocates with her husband, played by Jack Whitehall, to his childhood neighborhood. Their lives are disrupted when a mysterious new neighbor appears, unraveling hidden secrets within the community.

Palmer also serves as an executive producer for the series, which features a cast including Whitehall, Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch, and Kapil Talwalkar. The series was created by Celeste Hughey, known for Palm Royale, who co-wrote and executive produced alongside Rachel Shukert of The Baby-Sitters Club fame. Nzingha Stewart directs and executive produces, while Dana Olsen, the original films writer, returns as co-executive producer. Additional executive producers include Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, and Aimee Carlson of Fuzzy Door, as well as Brian Grazer, Kristen Zolner, and Natalie Berkus of Imagine Entertainment.

The original The Burbs film, written by Olsen and directed by Joe Dante, starred Hanks along with Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher, Rick Ducommun, Corey Feldman, Henry Gibson, Gale Gordon, and Wendy Schzaal. Produced by Imagine Entertainment and released by Universal Pictures, the movie gained a devoted following over the years despite a modest initial box office performance.

Palmers lead role in the reboot was confirmed in September 2024. All eight episodes of The Burbs are scheduled to premiere on Peacock on Sunday, February 8.
