Dec. 2 Renowned filmmaker and actor Kevin Smith, known for works such as Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Dogma, has revealed the passing of his mother, Grace Smith.

On social media, Smith reflected on the profound impact his mother had on his life: "The cost of 55 years of unconditional love arrived on December 1st. Watching the most resilient person I've ever known my absolute favorite human leave this world after dedicating her life to her children was heartbreaking," he shared. "At 8:34 last night, Grace V. Smith, the first person I ever loved, breathed her last."

He continued, "She was a lioness, fiercely protective of her family, living entirely for her children. Every day of my life, I felt valued, cherished, and deeply loved because of her. My mom made me feel like I mattered to our family, to the world, and most importantly, to her."

Smith also recounted a recent visit to a Florida hospital with his siblings Virginia and Don, where their mother had been ill. Initially, it seemed she was improving. "Incredible Grace did it once again! We flew to Florida on Friday for an emergency trip when Mom was critically ill. Over the next two days, she made a remarkable recovery, defying the odds," he wrote. "Virginia, Don, and I are beyond grateful for Moms extraordinary heart and spirit. Thanks to the hospital staff for giving her a fighting chance."

Kevin Smiths other notable projects include Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl, and Mallrats.
