Leonardo DiCaprio stands by decision to star in "Titanic" instead of "Boogie Nights"

Leonardo DiCaprio has reflected on his decision to star in Titanic instead of taking the lead in Boogie Nights, revealing he holds no regrets about the choice. The actor, 51, recently shared his thoughts in an interview with Deadline.

DiCaprio explained that his earlier comments about missing the chance to work with director Paul Thomas Anderson were not about the role itself, but rather about the opportunity to collaborate with a filmmaker he admires. He clarified, When asked what I regret most, I spoke from the perspective of being a longtime fan of his work. It wasnt about turning down a specific role, but about the experience of working with Paul.

Reflecting on Boogie Nights, DiCaprio said, I remember seeing that film and feeling it was a landmark moment for my generation. It marked the rise of a remarkable new filmmaker whose work spoke directly to people like me.

He also praised Mark Wahlberg, who ultimately played the lead role in the 1997 film, stating, No one could have done a better job than Mark. My comments were simply as a sincere admirer, watching Paul evolve into a storyteller of deeply thoughtful and existential films.

DiCaprio noted that the role in Boogie Nights was offered to him before he committed to James Camerons Titanic. Looking back, he said, No regrets. In hindsight, I am grateful for being part of Titanic and for having the ability to make my own career choices since then. It has been an incredible gift.

He added, At that moment, I wish I could have done both movies, but it wasnt possible. Years later, being able to reconnect and work with Paul is amazing. That film allowed me to navigate my own path, and I am truly thankful.
