Lizzo Responds to Online 'Fat Joke': 'They Will Never Be Satisfied with Your Body'

Lizzo is confronting online negativity head-on. On Thursday, December 4, the Grammy-winning artist behind About Damn Time took to Instagram to address critics mocking her body.

Sharing a photo of herself in a yellow-and-black snakeskin bikini, Lizzo wrote, Today I came across a fat joke about me in 2025 and it went viral. It was a pointless joke, aimed at making fun of my size Let this be a reminder to never let anyone dictate what you do with your own body. Whether youre big or small, people will always have something to say. Your body will never be for them; its for you.

Throughout her mainstream career, Lizzo has frequently faced body-shaming commentary. Earlier this year, during a podcast appearance on Trisha Paytas Just Trish, she shared that she experimented with Ozempic but ultimately chose to adjust her diet for her personal weight management journey.

In her Instagram post, she continued, If I get a BBL, mind your business; if I lose 100 pounds, mind your business. If I gain it all back and then some mind your business. Either way, my fat a is comfortably living rent-free in yall heads.

This statement came shortly after Lizzo released a Substack essay on December 1 titled Cancel Me (Again): A Cancelled Womans Take on Why Everyone Should Get Cancelled at Least Once. In a follow-up post on December 3, she noted, Not everyone appreciated my latest essay, which is exactly why I wrote it. I deserve the right to express myself. Im human I can be wrong, prickly, or unlikable at times. Its freeing for someone like me whos been a chronic people pleaser. I welcome all comments and critiques.

Despite the challenges, Lizzo continues to release music. In June, she dropped her mixtape My Face Hurts from Smiling, featuring collaborations with Doja Cat and SZA, along with a remix of PLUTO & YK Nieces viral track Whim Whamiee. Later in the year, she appeared on Cardi Bs Am I the Drama? (Whats Goin On) and Monaleos Who Did the Body (Freak Show).
