Director Matt Reeves, known for The Batman, spoke out in support of Paul Dano, who played the Riddler in his 2022 superhero film, after Quentin Tarantino described the actor as "weak sauce" and "uninteresting."
"Paul Dano is an extraordinary actor and a remarkable individual," Reeves stated in a post on X on Thursday.
Tarantino recently expressed his unfiltered thoughts on Danos performance in the 2007 film There Will Be Blood during an appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. While ranking his top 20 films of the 21st century, he placed Paul Thomas Andersons movie at number five, but singled out Danos acting as a flaw.
"There Will Be Blood could easily be a top one or two film if it didnt have a major flaw," Tarantino said. "And that flaw is Paul Dano. Its supposed to be a two-person story, but its clear it isnt. [Dano] is weak sauce. Hes the weak one. Austin Butler would have excelled in that role. Hes just a weak, unengaging performer."
Reeves response highlights his admiration for Danos talent and character, emphasizing the directors support despite Tarantinos harsh critique.
Director Matt Reeves Defends Paul Dano Following Tarantino's Criticism
In light of Quentin Tarantino's recent comments regarding Paul Dano's performance in the 2007 film There Will Be Blood, director Matt Reeves has come forward to show his support for the actor. Tarantino, during an appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, labeled Dano's acting as a "flaw" in an otherwise highly regarded film. He even went as far as to describe Dano as "weak sauce" and "unengaging."
Reeves, best known for his work on The Batman, took to social media to express his admiration for Dano. In a post on X, he stated, "Paul Dano is an extraordinary actor and a remarkable individual." Reeves emphasized his respect not only for Dano's talent but also for his character, underscoring that the actor's skills far surpass the critique offered by Tarantino.
This public defense of Dano from Reeves further highlights the strong industry support the actor enjoys, particularly from those who have worked with him closely. Despite Tarantino's dismissive comments, Dano's body of work continues to speak for itself, with his portrayal of the Riddler in The Batman earning critical acclaim for its depth and complexity.
