Representatives for Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have responded to rumors suggesting the couple might avoid CNN. The speculation arose after their son, Dylan Douglas, engaged in a contentious political discussion on CNNs NewsNight.
According to reports, some claimed the actors found the interview with their son unfair and exploitative, leading to alleged plans to boycott the network. However, both Michael and Catherines representatives have publicly denied these claims.
The idea that Catherine and Michael are boycotting CNN is completely untrue, a spokesperson for Zeta-Jones stated. They value accurate journalism, and this rumor does not reflect that. Michael Douglas team also dismissed the story, clarifying that the actor has no objections to appearing on or watching CNN.
The controversy began after Dylan Douglas appeared on NewsNight on November 10, debating conservative commentator Scott Jennings on topics including the government shutdown and healthcare. The discussion resurfaced on November 30, when journalist Rob Shuter suggested in a Substack post that Dylans parents were extremely upset about the interview, claiming they were fuming at CNN and considering a full network boycott. Shuter also reported that Catherine described the segment as unfair and exploitative, while Michael allegedly felt CNN crossed a line.
Despite the viral spread of these claims, Scott Jennings later addressed the situation on the Citizen McCain podcast. He expressed surprise at the rumors and emphasized that Dylan was courteous off-camera. Jennings added he felt privileged to have appeared on the program and even joked about personally apologizing to Catherine Zeta-Jones over a meal if necessary.
The reports about Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones avoiding CNN have now been officially debunked by their representatives.
