Michaela Coel Leads Anne Hathaway in a Pop Star Séance in ‘Mother Mary’ Trailer

The latest preview for David Lowerys Mother Mary reveals a tense reunion between Michaela Coels character, Sam Anselm, and Anne Hathaways tormented pop star, Mother Mary. Sam, feeling betrayed by their past, warns, There may only be one of us left standing when this is over, acknowledging the high stakes of their renewed connection.

The A24 feature follows the two women as old wounds resurface, reopening the pain of a friendship fractured by fame. Once inseparable, Sam and Mother Mary are now estranged, with Sam unable to endure her friends music. Yet when Mother Mary requires a costume for a major comeback show, Sam is the only person she can turn to. The trailer shows Sam agreeing to help but only after guiding her former friend through a mystical sance. You think theres something inside of you? Lets cast her out, she instructs.
