  3. Michella Zauner Prefers to Take Her Time with the 'Crying in H Mart' Adaptation

During a 2022 conversation with ELLE.com, Michella Zauner, the author of "Crying in H Mart," shared her thoughts on the upcoming film adaptation of her memoir. While discussing her hopes for the project, she emphasized the importance of not rushing the process, suggesting that the development should unfold at a natural pace rather than hurrying to meet deadlines.

Zauner also expressed her desire for an authentic casting process, particularly highlighting the importance of Korean actors who speak with genuine accents. She admitted that she found it difficult to connect with portrayals of Korean Americans raised in the U.S., referencing how such performances can feel out of place. "I would love to see more South Korean actresses involved, much like in the film 'Minari,'" Zauner remarked, suggesting that the casting should reflect the cultural nuances of the story.

As of now, the film adaptation has not yet moved forward with a confirmed release date, but Zauner's hope is that the project will stay true to the essence of her memoir, capturing its emotional depth and authenticity. Fans are eagerly awaiting further updates as the film's development continues to unfold.
