Mother Takes Baby to Auction House, 73-Year-Old Man Offers Deal

A 73-year-old man from Mississippi is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to purchase a baby from her mother at a Louisiana auction house.

Howell Gene Penton, a resident of Picayune, Mississippi, has been charged with the sale of minor children in Washington Parish, Louisiana, following the incident.

According to the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, Penton approached a mother at the Angie Auction House, located in the village of Angie, roughly 85 miles north of New Orleans, and asked to buy her 10-month-old daughter.

The investigation reportedly began on November 26. Three days later, law enforcement officials, including the sheriff and local police, executed an undercover operation that led to Pentons arrest without any complications.

Penton is currently being held at the Washington Parish Jail in Franklinton on a $200,000 bond. Court records do not yet indicate whether he has entered a plea or secured legal representation.
