The Grade II listed building, originally opened in 1866, served as both the local railway station and the Cambrian Railway headquarters, playing an important role in connecting Oswestry with North Wales. Following decades of neglect and storm damage in 2022, the council acquired the site in 2023.

Today, the building is leased to the local heritage organization, Cambrian Heritage Railways, ensuring it remains active within the community.
