Netflix emerges victorious in bidding war for Warner Bros.

Netflix is set to acquire Warner Bros. film studio and streaming division after emerging as the winner in the competitive bidding for the entertainment powerhouse. The companies are now preparing to enter exclusive negotiations, which are expected to include a $5 billion termination fee if regulatory authorities block the transaction, according to TheWrap.

The streaming giant reportedly proposed $30 per share for Warner Bros. and its associated streaming platforms, including HBO Max, along with the rights to prominent franchises such as Harry Potter and DC Comics. Netflixs offer surpassed rival bids from Comcast and Paramount, which had recently completed its merger with Skydance, while earlier interest had also been shown by Amazon and Apple.

Warner Bros. Discovery had expressed openness to a sale in October, following plans to divide the company into two separate entities: one for the studio and streaming operations, and another for cable networks. While Paramount sought to acquire both divisions after multiple early bids were declined, Netflix is concentrating solely on the studio and streaming assets.

Regulatory approval remains a significant obstacle, with the Department of Justice already signaling potential opposition. If finalized, the deal will position Netflix as a major player in Hollywood, taking on the management of one of the most established studios, including the theatrical distribution operations it has traditionally avoided.
