Paul Anka confirms scandalous Frank Sinatra rumor that shocked Hollywood

Paul Anka, the celebrated Canadian singer-songwriter known for writing the English lyrics to Frank Sinatras legendary hit "My Way," opens up in a new HBO Max documentary titled Paul Anka: His Way. At 84, Anka revisits his decades-long career while reflecting on his close friendship with Sinatra.

During promotion of the film, Anka addressed long-standing Hollywood rumors about Sinatras personal life. "Yeah, it was huge," he told Page Six, referring to speculation about Sinatras endowment, before laughing, "I dont know what that does for you!"

Anka reminisced about his time with Sinatra and the Rat Pack in Las Vegas, sharing moments of camaraderie, including sauna visits. He also joked about Sinatras competitiveness with other stars, singling out Milton Berle.

While Sinatras relationships fueled gossip, including remarks from his second wife Ava Gardner, Ankas connection with the singer had a deeper artistic impact. In 1968, inspired by a French song called "Comme dhabitude," Anka wrote the English lyrics that became "My Way," tailored specifically for Sinatra, revitalizing his career. The song has since become a cultural touchstone, frequently played at funerals and covered by artists from Elvis Presley to Sid Vicious.

Anka recalled hearing Sinatra perform "My Way" for the first time over the phone from Los Angeles to New York, describing the emotional impact: "I just started crying happy tears thinking, Wow, this is something. This is going to change my life."

Even today, Anka continues to be moved by new interpretations of the song. "It never gets dull," he said, noting the unique impact of Sid Viciouss version.

Beyond celebrating Sinatra, Anka remains active in preserving the legacy of classic music. He performs songs from the Sinatra catalog to introduce them to younger audiences, including TikTok users, emphasizing the importance of remembering iconic artists like Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Johnny Carson.

Reflecting on his ongoing career, Anka discussed the renewed popularity of his 1959 hit "Put Your Head on My Shoulder," which gained viral attention on TikTok in 2021. He expressed his passion for performing and announced a new album set for release early next year, saying, "Performing I miss that. Thats who I am. Thats why I am. And as long as my health holds up, you know, this has truly been a blessed journey."
