Walker Scobell, the 16-year-old actor starring as Percy Jackson in the second season of Disney+'s hit series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, has encountered a challenge no mythical monster could match the Department of Motor Vehicles driving exam. Despite his on-screen heroics, Scobell recently failed the test required to obtain his drivers license.
The reason for the setback was a minor parallel parking mistake. "I just took the test," Scobell shared. "I was excited, but even being slightly on the line while parallel parking was enough to fail." He added, "I didnt pass at all!"
Scobell, who portrays the demigod son of Poseidon, expressed disagreement with the DMV's strict approach near his hometown in Fairview, Pennsylvania. "The lines feel more like suggestions than strict rules," he said. "And honestly, how often do people parallel park? You learn it over time."
Interestingly, the Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan faced the same fate decades earlier. "I failed my driving test the first time because of parallel parking," Riordan recalled.
Despite this real-life hiccup, Scobell is busy filming intense chariot races for Season 2, which premieres on Disney+ on December 10. The action sequences were executed by stunt performers, with Scobell performing a small stunt on a rig pulled by a truck. "I can drive a chariot, just not a car," he joked. "Luckily, no parallel parking was required."
Determined to succeed, Scobell plans to retake the DMV test. "Getting my license has been a goal, and I wont fail again," he said, viewing the experience as a humorous story leading up to the shows premiere.
