Quentin Tarantino includes 'Paul Dano critic' on his list of accomplishments

Despite often facing his own share of criticism, Quentin Tarantino has openly expressed his disapproval of actor Paul Danos work. During a recent episode of The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Tarantino spoke about Paul Thomas Andersons 2007 film There Will Be Blood, naming it his fifth-favorite movie of the 21st century. However, he noted that the film could have ranked higher if not for what he described as a major flawPaul Danos performance.

Tarantino criticized Dano, who portrayed the identical twins Eli and Paul Sunday, suggesting that he did not match the caliber of his co-star, Daniel Day-Lewis. He is weak sauce, man, Tarantino commented. Hes a weak sister. He even added that Austin Butler would have been a better choice, describing Dano as a weak, uninteresting guy. Notably, Butler would have been only 16 at the time of filming.

This criticism is particularly striking given that Dano was cast in both roles after Anderson rewrote the script to make the characters identical twins. Initially, Dano was only set to play the minor character Paul Sunday. He was given just a few days to prepare for the role of Eli, a young preacher locked in a dramatic conflict with Day-Lewis character, who had a full year of preparation.

Despite Tarantinos comments, Dano has received widespread acclaim for his performances in There Will Be Blood and other films such as Little Miss Sunshine and The Fabelmans.
