Reason Why One Home Alone Star Will Skip Movie's 35th Anniversary Celebrations

Daniel Stern, famous for portraying Marv Murchins in the Home Alone franchise, has announced that he will not participate in the upcoming 35th-anniversary celebrations. Stern, who co-starred alongside Joe Pescis character Harry, explained that he prefers to stay on his farm but is willing to join remotely via phone or Zoom if required.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Stern clarified his absence from the events, saying, I dont leave my farm. Its no offense to the movie. Im just a phone call, Zoom call, Im in, but Im a bit of a homebody. He also shared how public attention can feel overwhelming, stating, I love knowing that everybody loves it, but like, actual people come at me and say, We love it. Its a little overwhelming sometimes.

Stern reflected on the unexpected success of the film, admitting that while he didnt foresee its massive popularity, he always regarded it as a remarkable project. I did know that it was a gem of a movie, he remarked. He praised John Hughes for crafting a script that balanced humor with heartfelt moments. Hughes wrote the funniest script Ive ever read. I mean, I was rolling on the floor, laughing reading it. It was so funny, but it was also full of heart the kid, the neighbor, the mother it was so emotional, Stern said.

Discussing the enduring appeal of the holiday classic, he added, It was so funny, it was so true, and so I did know that. I was hopeful that we were making a great movie. I had no idea, obviously no one could of the longevity of its life.

Since 2024, Stern has stepped away from Hollywood to focus on his farming lifestyle.
