Renowned actor Robert De Niro made a public appearance on Broadway this week, drawing attention after being seen with his right arm supported in a sling. Fans and theatergoers were curious about the reason behind the precautionary measure.

De Niro attended a performance of the celebrated play Oedipus at Studio 54 in New York City on Wednesday, December 3. The production features his former co-star from Stardust, Mark Strong, alongside Lesley Manville.

A representative confirmed that De Niro recently underwent a medical procedure. Observers at the theater reported that the actor mentioned he would need to wear the sling for a few more days, indicating a relatively quick recovery ahead.

The Broadway run of Oedipus began officially on November 13, following previews that started on October 30, and will continue until February 8, 2026. Prior to its New York debut, Robert Ickes adaptation was produced in Dutch at the International Theater Amsterdam, later premiering at the Edinburgh International Festival. The West End staging received critical acclaim and won the Olivier Award for Best Revival, with Strong and Manville recognized for their performances.

Several members of the original U.K. cast joined the production in New York, including Samuel Brewer as Teiresias, Bhasker Patel as Corin, Jordan Scowen as Eteocles, and James Wilbraham as Polyneices.
