Robert De Niro Spotted with Injured Arm at Broadway's “Oedipus” Performance

Robert De Niro made a public appearance with his right arm in a sling while attending a Broadway staging of Oedipus on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. The 82-year-old actor was photographed backstage at Studio 54 in New York City following a procedure, with a representative confirming he would need to keep the sling on for several more days.

The production, directed by Robert Icke, offers a modern political thriller twist on the classic Greek tragedy and stars Mark Strong and Lesley Manville. Strong, a former co-star of De Niro in Stardust, portrays Oedipus, while Manville makes her Broadway debut as Jocasta.

Oedipus first premiered in Dutch by International Theater Amsterdam and was later presented at the Edinburgh International Festival. After earning critical acclaim in the West End and winning the Olivier Award for Best Revival, it transferred to Broadway, where Strong and Manville also received acting accolades.

The narrative is set on election night, with Oedipus anticipating a predicted landslide victory. As results unfold, hidden secrets emerge, driving the story toward a dramatic and devastating conclusion.

Several original U.K. cast members have joined the Broadway run, including Samuel Brewer as Teiresias, Bhasker Patel as Corin, Jordan Scowen as Eteocles, and James Wilbraham as Polyneices. They are accompanied by John Carroll Lynch (Creon), Teagle F Bougere (Driver), Ani Mesa-Perez (Lichas), Olivia Reis (Antigone), and Anne Reid (Merope), with Brian Thomas Abraham, Denise Cormier, Karl Kenzler, and Oliver Rowland-Jones completing the ensemble.

Previews for Oedipus began on October 30, 2025, before its official opening on November 13. The limited engagement is scheduled to conclude on February 8, 2026, at Studio 54 in New York City, with tickets currently available.
