Sabrina Carpenter is in disbelief over Taylor Swift asking her to collaborate

Long before she made her own mark in pop music, Sabrina Carpenter admired Taylor Swift, making their collaboration on the title track of The Life of a Showgirl this fall especially meaningful. In a recent interview with Variety published Wednesday, the Gen-Z singer described the surreal feeling of performing alongside the artist she looked up to as a child.

"Ten-year-old me, for so many reasons, could not believe it to hear our voices together," Carpenter shared, explaining that Swift personally reached out with the idea to work together. "We definitely realized it was special, but I would have never been like, Hey, bestie, put me on a song.' She was so thoughtful to involve me in a track that reflects our real-life experiences so genuinely. It really captures what many young women in this industry go through."

The song The Life of a Showgirl is featured at the close of Swifts Billboard 200-topping album released in October. Incorporating audio from Carpenters guest appearance on the Eras Tour, the track explores the hidden struggles of young performers navigating the entertainment world. Carpenters lyrics touch on the darker side of fame: "Do you wanna take a skate on the ice inside my veins? They ripped me off like false lashes and then threw me away."

After the collaboration was announced in August, Carpenter candidly shared her excitement on Instagram, admitting, "i know someone whos freaking out and its me."

In the same Variety interview, Carpenter also discussed her album Mans Best Friend, which continues the clever and bold songwriting that first propelled her into stardom with 2024s Short n Sweet. Reflecting on criticism of some of her more mature lyrics, Carpenter said, "I think it wouldnt matter so much if I wasnt a childhood figure for some people. But I also cant really help that. Its not my fault that I got a job when I was 12 and you wont let me evolve."
