The Wolverhampton safe space initiative for night-time visitors will extend its services with extra evenings leading up to the holiday season. The Late Night Safe Haven, located at the Urban Room in Queen Square, will now operate on four more dates in December.
Launched in 2021, the program provides support for attendees, including medical assistance, while they arrange safe transportation home.
The City of Wolverhampton Council confirmed the scheme will run on 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, and 20 December from 22:30 to 03:30 GMT.
Councillor Obaida Ahmed highlighted the benefits, stating, "This extended schedule will ensure visitors enjoy our lively city centre safely and help ease the demand on emergency services."
Funding for the additional December nights comes from the Safer Wolverhampton Partnership and the Wolverhampton Business Improvement District (BID).
Analysis: Wolverhampton’s Expanded Late Night Safe Haven
The City of Wolverhampton is taking concrete steps to enhance safety during the busy holiday period by extending the Late Night Safe Haven initiative. Originally launched in 2021, the program now offers support on four additional December evenings, operating from 22:30 to 03:30 GMT at the Urban Room in Queen Square.
This expansion addresses two key objectives: providing immediate medical assistance and safe transport for night-time visitors, and reducing pressure on emergency services. Councillor Obaida Ahmed emphasized that the extended schedule allows residents and visitors to enjoy the city centre while minimizing risks associated with late-night activities.
Funding for these extra dates comes jointly from the Safer Wolverhampton Partnership and the Wolverhampton Business Improvement District (BID), reflecting a coordinated effort between public and private sectors to maintain urban safety during peak holiday periods.
