Scarlett Johansson in Negotiations for ‘The Batman 2’

Scarlett Johansson is reportedly negotiating a role in the upcoming The Batman Part II, where she would star alongside Robert Pattinsons version of the Caped Crusader. The sequel, directed by Matt Reeves, is scheduled to start filming next spring and aims for an October 2027 release through Warner Bros.

The first installment of The Batman premiered in March 2022 and earned $772 million globally. Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin finalized the sequels script in June. According to sources familiar with the project, Zoe Kravitz will not be returning as Catwoman.

Details about Johanssons potential character are being kept secret. This casting marks a significant franchise move for Johansson, who recently appeared in Jurassic World Rebirth, which earned over $800 million worldwide, and is set to appear in the Exorcist reboot.

Johanssons involvement in the Batman sequel also represents a shift from her longtime role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where she is known for portraying Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow. Beyond blockbuster franchises, Johansson has pursued other creative ventures, including her directorial debut with the drama Eleanor the Great, which premiered at Cannes and was distributed by Sony Pictures Classics. She will also star in James Grays Paper Tiger.

She is represented by CAA and Yorn Levine LLC. News of Johansson considering the role was first reported by Nexus Point News. DC Studios has not provided an official comment on the casting.

Author's Opinion: Scarlett Johansson's Bold Shift to The Batman Part II

The news of Scarlett Johansson possibly joining the cast of *The Batman Part II* is noteworthy for several reasons. For one, it signifies a shift in her career trajectory, moving from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the world of DC. Johansson's portrayal of Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) made her a household name, but her recent roles and directorial ventures show her versatility as an actor and a creative force.

Her potential casting in the upcoming *The Batman* sequel suggests that the DC franchise is looking to expand its star power and take a different direction. The secrecy surrounding Johansson's character adds intrigue, and it will be interesting to see how she fits into the dark, gritty tone of Matt Reeves' Batman universe. Given her experience in blockbusters, Johansson could be a powerful addition to this world, alongside Robert Pattinson's Batman.

It is also important to note the absence of Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, which raises questions about the future direction of the franchise's characters. While details are scarce, this could indicate a change in focus for *The Batman Part II*, giving room for fresh dynamics and new talent.

Johansson’s involvement might also be a strategic move, as she moves away from her established roles in other major franchises. After the success of *Jurassic World Rebirth*, which grossed over $800 million globally, and her upcoming projects like the *Exorcist* reboot and *Eleanor the Great*, she continues to demonstrate her ability to take on diverse roles. This casting choice could mark a significant milestone in her career and in the *Batman* franchise, signaling a potential new era for both.
