Scarlett Johansson Nearing Deal to Join Sequel to ‘The Batman’

Scarlett Johansson is poised to enter DCs Gotham City four years after her departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Industry insiders report that Johansson is in the final stages of negotiations to appear in The Batman Part II, the much-anticipated follow-up to Matt Reeves 2021 blockbuster.

If confirmed, her involvement would provide a significant boost to the production, which is slated to begin filming next year. Johansson is expected to complete her work on The Exorcist before joining the Batman sequel.

Johansson remains one of Hollywoods most commercially successful actors. Her portrayal of Natasha Romanoff in the MCU, along with her role in this years Jurassic World: Rebirth, has cemented her status. She also recently debuted as a director with the understated drama Eleanor the Great, starring June Squibb.

The journey to bring the sequel to life has been complex. Warner Bros. first announced the film at CinemaCon in April 2022. Initially, DC Studios leaders James Gunn and Peter Safran set an October 2025 release, but the date has been shifted twicefirst to October 2, 2026, and now to October 1, 2027.

Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne, with Matt Reeves returning as director and co-writer alongside Mattson Tomlin. The original film, released in March 2022, earned $770.3 million worldwide and inspired a Max spin-off focusing on Colin Farrells Penguin.

The returning cast also includes Zo Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Barry Keoghan as a mysterious Arkham inmate rumored to be connected to The Joker.

Scarlett Johansson's Potential DC Debut: A Game Changer for 'The Batman Part II'

The news of Scarlett Johansson possibly joining the cast of The Batman Part II is stirring considerable excitement in the film industry. After a notable exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Johansson’s potential involvement in Matt Reeves' much-anticipated sequel would not only mark her return to a major franchise but also inject fresh star power into the DC universe. This news, if confirmed, could elevate the production’s profile, which is already supported by a strong cast and creative team.

Johansson has been one of Hollywood’s most consistent box-office draws, with her portrayal of Natasha Romanoff in the MCU and other high-profile roles cementing her star status. Her work in Jurassic World: Rebirth and her directorial debut with Eleanor the Great highlight her versatility and growing influence in the industry. Her involvement in a DC project, especially a sequel to a blockbuster like The Batman, could provide a valuable boost to the film’s visibility and appeal, especially as the movie gears up for production in 2027.

While the announcement of Johansson’s potential role is yet to be confirmed, the timing aligns well with her schedule, as she is expected to wrap up her commitments to The Exorcist before joining the project. The shifting release dates for The Batman Part II (from 2025 to 2027) have kept fans on edge, but the addition of Johansson might help maintain momentum and keep the film in the public eye.

With Robert Pattinson returning as Batman and several of the first film’s key cast members also reprising their roles, the sequel already boasts a strong foundation. The possible addition of Johansson, however, could be a defining factor in drawing a wider audience to theaters when it finally premieres in 2027.
