Netflix revealed plans for a new Las Vegas-based drama series on Wednesday, though the project has not yet been given a title. The series will be written and showrun by Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the creative minds behind Billions, with Martin Scorsese serving as an executive producer.
The upcoming eight-episode series, with each episode lasting approximately an hour, will follow Robert "Bobby Red" Redman, the proprietor of a contemporary Las Vegas hotel. This marks a return to the casino world for Scorsese, who famously directed Casino, a film depicting the mob's rise and fall in Las Vegas.
Koppelman and Levien are known for their work on Rounders, the poker drama, and Ocean's Thirteen, a sequel centered on a casino heist. Production details, casting, and the release schedule for the new series have not yet been disclosed.
Additional executive producers on the project include Julie and Rick Yorn, Paul Schiff, Beth Schachter, and Kerry Orent, alongside Scorsese, Levien, and Koppelman.
Analysis: Netflix Returns to the Vegas Casino Narrative
Netflix's announcement of a new Las Vegas-based drama underscores the streaming platform's continued investment in high-profile collaborations. With Brian Koppelman and David Levien at the helm and Martin Scorsese attached as executive producer, the series is positioned to attract both industry attention and a dedicated audience.
The choice of setting—a contemporary Las Vegas hotel—signals a potential blend of modern casino culture with classic themes of ambition and risk. This mirrors Scorsese's earlier exploration of the city's underworld in Casino, suggesting a creative throughline in his work.
While production timelines, casting, and release dates remain undisclosed, the involvement of experienced producers like Julie and Rick Yorn, Paul Schiff, Beth Schachter, and Kerry Orent indicates a well-resourced project with strong storytelling potential. Netflix appears poised to leverage the combination of Scorsese's legacy and Koppelman and Levien's expertise in casino-driven narratives to deliver a series that could become a defining addition to their original content portfolio.
