Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried criticize Today Show host for revealing 'The Housemaid' spoilers

Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are committed to keeping the surprises of their latest film, The Housemaid, under wraps, even if it means correcting a live TV host. The actresses appeared on NBCs Today show on Wednesday morning to discuss their upcoming psychological thriller following its red carpet premiere in New York City the previous evening.

During the interview with host Willie Geist, the pair shared stories about their camaraderie off-camera, including spending downtime in a bedroom they called the girls room, crocheting and relaxing with friends between takes. Geist jokingly remarked that the actors would decompress covered in makeup, blood, and stuff like that, which prompted a brief slip revealing a potential plot detail.

Oh God, there was a lot of blood, Seyfried, who had just celebrated her 40th birthday, exclaimed before quickly backtracking: Wait! Spoilers! Noticing Geists reaction, Sweeney joined in the playful admonishment: Yeah! We cant spoil! Geist then tried to lighten the moment, suggesting the blood wasnt their fault, to which Seyfried humorously replied, There was no blood. Sweeney added about Seyfrieds character, No, Ninas perfect, with Geist confirming, Right, everythings great.

The Housemaid, adapted from Freida McFaddens 2022 bestseller, follows Millie Calloway (Sweeney), who becomes a live-in maid for Nina Winchester (Seyfried) and her affluent family. As the story unfolds, the familys seemingly perfect life begins to crack, revealing hidden and sinister secrets. Geist commented on the films shocking twist, noting how dramatically the story escalates beyond the initial premise.

Directed by Paul Feig, known for A Simple Favor, The Housemaid will hit theaters on December 19. Alongside Seyfried and Sweeney, who both served as executive producers, the cast includes Brandon Sklenar as Ninas husband. Sweeney expressed her enthusiasm for the project on Today, calling the story delicious and juicy with many layers. Seyfried echoed the sentiment, describing the role as the most fun Ive ever had and appreciating the freedom to explore the character fully without revealing any spoilers.
