Tragically, a wake from a passing riverboat swept him under, and his body was discovered six days later. An autopsy revealed he had consumed only one beer and no drugs, confirming his death as accidental.

Rebecca Moore, Buckleys former girlfriend, reflected on his death in August 2025. She described it as a joyful moment in true Buckley fashion, emphasizing that she believed he had no intention of dying. Despite this, she acknowledged signs of mental distress in their final conversations, highlighting the complex circumstances surrounding his passing.

Buckleys death was initially reported as a missing person case before authorities recovered his body near Beale Street in Memphis. He was 30 years old at the time.
