'The Stories' Teaser: Friendship Tale Featuring Amir El-Masry, Nelly Karim & Valerie Pachner Set Against Egypt's Turbulent Late 20th Century – Red Sea

British-Egyptian actor Amir El-Masry is featured prominently at this years Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, which opened its fifth edition recently. Having appeared on the red carpet for the premiere of the biographical film Giant, portraying UK-Yemeni boxing legend Prince Naseem Naz Hamed, El-Masry is also competing with the drama The Stories.

A teaser for the Egyptian film has been released ahead of its MENA premiere at the festival on Monday, following its world debut last month at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Directed by Egyptian filmmaker Abu Bakr Shawky, The Stories marks his third feature after Yomeddine, which competed at Cannes in 2018, and the Saudi-set camel racing drama Hajjan.

In the film, El-Masry plays a young Egyptian pianist who begins a long-distance friendship in 1967 with an Austrian pen pal. Their connection, met with skepticism from his family, becomes a source of encouragement, inspiring him to pursue his musical dreams amid Egypts social and political changes from the late 1960s through the 1980s.

The ensemble cast includes Nelly Karim, Valerie Pachner, Karim Kassem, Ahmed Kamal, Sabry Fawaz, Sherif El Dessouky, Khaled Mokhtar, Ahmed El Azaar, and Amr Abed. Production companies involved are Cinenovo, Film Clinic, Lagoonie Film Production, Film Square, Shofha Productions, Film AG, Fox in the Snow, and Wrong Men.
