The battle between Homelander and Butcher is approaching its dramatic conclusion. Fans should mark April 8, 2026, on their calendars, as the first two episodes of the fifth and final season of The Boys will debut exclusively on Prime Video. Following the premiere, new episodes will release every Wednesday, culminating in the series finale on May 20.

Returning Cast

The final season brings back the main ensemble including Karl Urban (Billy Butcher), Jack Quaid (Hughie Campbell Jr.), Antony Starr (Homelander), Erin Moriarty (Starlight), Jessie T. Usher (A-Train), Laz Alonso (Mother's Milk), Chace Crawford (The Deep), Tomer Capone (Frenchie), Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko), Nathan Mitchell (Black Noir II), and Colby Minifie (Ashley Barrett). Season 5 also features a reunion of sorts with Jared Padalecki joining fellow Supernatural alumni Jensen Ackles and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Season 5 Plot

The story picks up in a world dominated by Homelander and his loyal followers, some of whom appeared in the spin-off Gen V. The Boys are scattered: Hughie, Mother's Milk, and Frenchie are confined in a "Freedom Camp," while Annie organizes resistance against the Supes. Meanwhile, Butcher returns with a deadly virus capable of wiping out all Supes, setting off events that could alter the world permanently.

Teaser Trailer

At CCXP Brazil on December 6, the cast and showrunner Eric Kripke unveiled the first teaser for the season. In the two-minute preview, the heroes face desperate odds, with Mother's Milk stating, "We are dead men walking." Butcher inspires the team to take "one last go," promising to see their mission through "no matter the cost."

Behind the Scenes

The Boys, adapted from the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Eric Kripke serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Ennis, Robertson, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Neal H. Moritz. Music is composed by Christopher Lennertz and Matt Bowen.

Accolades

The series recently celebrated its most successful Emmy run in 2025, winning awards for Best Music and Lyrics, Best Stunt Coordination, and Best Stunt Performance. With four Emmy wins from twelve nominations, the show continues to receive critical acclaim. Antony Starr has also earned two Critics Choice Award nominations for his portrayal of Homelander.
