This Comedy From Two Decades Ago is Now Being Discussed for a Reboot

Nearly 18 years have passed since Bryan Fullers distinctive ABC comedy-drama Pushing Daisies went off the air, but in the world of The Piemaker, endings arent always permanent. Back in 2007, ABC took a gamble on a daring and original concept from a rising creator, a move thats rare in todays television landscape.

Pushing Daisies followed Ned, a restaurant owner who possessed the extraordinary ability to resurrect the dead under certain conditions, all depicted in a visually unique style. Though it attracted a relatively small audience, the series earned devoted fans thanks to its charm, creativity, and emotional depth. However, with ratings slipping, ABC cancelled the show in 2008 after only two seasons and 22 episodes.

Since then, the shows loyal fanbase has continually called for a revival, and critics frequently cite Pushing Daisies as one of the most unjustly cancelled series. Meanwhile, Fuller has actively pitched a continuation, confirming recently that we're working on a Season Three. He added, The entire cast is eager to return, and weve developed a full storyline. Were aiming for another season this year.

Although Fullers timeline is ambitious, fans are cautious, remembering the creators history of optimistic revival plans. After the shows initial end, Fuller attempted to continue the story through a comic series, which was ultimately scrapped when DC Comics closed the intended publisher in 2010. Subsequent ideas for a miniseries, a feature film, and even a Broadway adaptation also fell through.

Despite past setbacks, Fuller remains committed to bringing the series back. If the third season does materialize, it could finally provide closure for the story. Yet, questions remain about whether reviving a show nearly two decades later is the right move, especially in an era when networks rarely invest in unconventional new content. Every timeslot devoted to an old favorite could potentially block the emergence of the next original hit.

Time will reveal whether Fuller can successfully deliver Pushing Daisies Season Three, but for fans, any chance to revisit its whimsical, storybook world is cause for excitement.
