Following her unexpected rise as a fan-favorite in Army of the Dead (2021), Tig Notaro is embracing her newfound status. The comedian recently shared that she and director Zack Snyder are collaborating on a bold new project, currently titled Deviants, which Snyders team has confirmed is in development.
Speaking on the On with Kara Swisher podcast, Notaro reflected on the surprising attention she received for her performance in Army of the Dead: I went viral for being seen as sexy in this film, and it completely caught me off guard. Messages were coming in from straight men, gay men, gay women, and straight women alike. I was stunned, so I called Zack and shared what was happening.
Notaro originally joined the zombie thriller as helicopter pilot Marianne Peters in 2020, replacing Chris DElia following misconduct allegations. Her seamless performance led her and Snyder to brainstorm a new project together. I suggested, What if everyone in the movie is a hot lesbian? He immediately loved the idea, Notaro said. Now were in the early stages of developing the script. I even pitched it to him on Zoom with the tagline Hot Lesbian Action.
The upcoming film, Deviants, is set in a historical period and will explore the lives of individuals living in secrecy as closeted deviants.
Notaro is represented by UTA, while Snyder is represented by CAA, Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern, and ID.
