Variety reports on film producers lobbying Congress against Netflix-Warner Bros Discovery acquisition

A collective of prominent Hollywood producers has appealed to the U.S. Congress to step in, warning that Netflixs attempt to acquire Warner Bros Discovery could trigger significant economic and structural disruption within the film industry, according to a recent report from Variety.

The report notes that Netflix is currently viewed as the leading contender for the acquisition, potentially reshaping the media sector if the deal proceeds. The group behind the appeal described themselves as "concerned feature film producers" and stated in a message sent to congressional representatives that they withheld their names due to fear of retaliation, referencing Netflixs influence as both a major content buyer and distributor.

These producers urged both chambers of Congress to take a public stance against the takeover and to ensure that any proposed merger undergoes the strictest antitrust evaluation.

Variety also reported that Warner Bros Discovery recently received revised proposals from multiple interested parties among them Netflix, Comcast, and Paramount Skydance after the company requested improved bids near the end of November.
