When they first met, Ryan Serhant's wife thought he was gay

Ryan Serhant, a prominent figure in New York Citys real estate scene, has been in the public eye for over a decade through shows like Million Dollar Listing New York and Owning Manhattan. Despite his visibility, questions about his personal life, particularly his sexuality, have long circulated.

In a candid conversation with Parade, Serhant discussed the challenge of balancing his private life with his professional image. The commitment I made to Netflix, my family, and myself was that I had to be completely transparent, he explained. I needed to show vulnerability and share everything with the audience, letting them draw their own conclusions. Everyone joining the show must embrace this same openness, especially the main cast.

Serhant is openly heterosexual. He married attorney and co-star Emilia Bechrakis in 2016, and they have a daughter, Zena, born in 2019.

Reflecting on how he first met Bechrakis in Manhattan, Serhant shared a humorous anecdote from 2018. I attended a townhouse open house hoping to meet Jewish women and a developer. My plan was to find a Jewish girl to guide me through life. Instead, I met Emilia, who thought I was gay. My yamulke kept slipping, which led to our initial conversation. She reached out the next day, and I said, Is that it? Just a follow-up? She replied, What else do you want? and I said, Drinks tonight!

He affectionately added, She always jokes that I was the one-night stand that never got away.

The couple faced divorce rumors earlier this year when fans noticed Bechrakiss absence from Serhants social media posts. Addressing this, Serhant told TMZ, We are still very happily married! Celebrating 14 years together. And yes, she still puts up with me. His representative clarified to the Daily Mail that the reduced personal content online was due to security concerns and Serhants focus on his business ventures.
