Woman Sets Her Ex on Fire, Changes His Clothes, and Fabricates a Strange Story About a Fireplace Incident

Kalena Stubbs, 51, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after causing severe injuries to her former boyfriend and inventing a false story about an accident in a fireplace.

In January, Stubbs called emergency services claiming her ex had fallen into a fireplace while holding a bottle of lighter fluid. Responding officers found the man with severe burns on his torso, arms, and face, but his clothing remained intact, raising immediate suspicion.

Authorities learned that Stubbs had changed his clothes before calling 911. An open bottle of lighter fluid was found nearby, untouched by flames. The man was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center due to the critical extent of his injuries.

District Attorney John Bubba Bramlett stated that the victim suffered some of the worst burns seen in the county, leaving long-term physical consequences. During recovery, the victim confirmed that Stubbs had poured lighter fluid on him and set him on fire during an argument, matching the burn patterns observed.

Stubbs pled guilty to one count of aggravated assault, receiving the maximum sentence of 20 years in state prison. The case highlights both the brutality of the attack and the danger of attempts to cover up violent acts with fabricated stories.
