New documents reveal that UK authorities were aware of Jeffrey Epsteins alleged connections to former Prince Andrew years before any formal investigation began, raising questions about delayed action and oversight in handling serious allegations.
Recent court filings and official documents have raised questions about the handling of information by British authorities regarding Jeffrey Epstein and his alleged connections to former Prince Andrew. Evidence suggests that a formal criminal investigation into these connections may not have been initiated until the former prince's recent arrest.
UK Authorities Aware of Allegations Years Ago
A report indicates that British law enforcement had been aware for several years of allegations concerning Epstein’s alleged trafficking activities in the United Kingdom. These allegations reportedly included claims involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. Despite this awareness, authorities did not pursue a criminal investigation against the key figures involved in Epstein's network at that time.
Reasons for Delay in Investigation Remain Unclear
The motives behind the delayed inquiry into ex-Prince Andrew’s alleged ties to Epstein remain uncertain. Reports suggest that UK police may have had knowledge of these connections long before widespread media coverage and prior to Andrew’s arrest related to alleged misconduct in public office.
London Metropolitan Police Interviews
The London Metropolitan Police reportedly conducted interviews with Virginia Giuffre on three occasions after she accused Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell of bringing her to London in 2001. Two interviews took place in 2015, followed by a third in 2016. Despite these interviews, the police initially opted not to initiate a full investigation. Subsequent reviews of the case in 2019, 2021, and 2022 also did not result in criminal action.
Evidence Submitted by Legal Representation
Virginia Giuffre’s attorney, Paul G. Cassell, provided supporting evidence to Scotland Yard, according to reports. The documentation reportedly included photographs confirming Giuffre’s presence in London and flight records showing her travel from the United States to the United Kingdom.
Metropolitan Police Statement
The Metropolitan Police offered a response indicating that during interviews with Giuffre and other potential victims, no criminal allegations were made against any individuals residing in the UK. The Met noted that prosecutorial guidance directed the police to involve international authorities rather than pursue local action.
Concerns from Former Victims Commissioner
Vera Baird, former victims commissioner for England and Wales, expressed concern following Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s 2019 interview with the BBC. She described it as extraordinary that authorities had not investigated the presence of Giuffre at Ghislaine Maxwell’s London residence.
Ongoing Evaluation by Police
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they will assess any new, relevant information that emerges. Nevertheless, the recent report has prompted scrutiny over the actions and decision-making of UK authorities regarding the Epstein case and its links to former Prince Andrew.
