NYT Reveals Clues and Answers for #635: Friday, Nov. 28, 2025

If youre taking a break from hunting Black Friday deals to tackle todays New York Times Strands puzzle, here are some helpful hints. Using a hint or two isnt considered cheatingthe game is designed to be challenging.

As a regular Strands player, Ill also share my approach. Todays puzzle contains six hidden words, excluding the spangram. For newcomers, well explain how to get started with NYT Strands.

How NYT Strands Works

The game resembles a word search. You are presented with a grid of letters, typically 6 across by 8 down. Around seven words are hidden within, and the goal is to locate them. Words can connect horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, forming unusual shapes. Every letter in the grid is used at least once.

Your objective is to find all hidden words and the final spangram, which represents the theme linking all the words. For example, in a previous puzzle, the theme was Thats so sweet! and the spangram was sugary, with all hidden words related to types of sugar.

Using Hints

If you get stuck, Strands allows you to unlock in-game hints. For every four-letter word you identify that isnt part of the puzzle answers, you earn progress toward a hint. Every three words illuminate a Hint icon in the bottom left of the screen. Clicking it highlights the letters of the next answer, though it doesnt show how they connect. You can unlock additional hints to reveal the word letter by letter, but keep in mind that using hints affects your final score.

Like Wordle and Connections, Strands limits you to one puzzle per day. The daily timer resets at midnight.

Todays Theme

The theme for todays puzzle is If all else fails Consider what you do when blowing out birthday candles for a clue. If needed, non-theme four-letter words within the grid can also help generate hints. Examples include:

  • WAKE
  • DAMS
  • LEAD
  • LEADS
  • DEAL
  • SALE
  • LIED
  • SHOW
  • CAKE

Another tip: knowing the length of the spangram is useful. Todays spangram is nine letters long.

Words in Todays Puzzle

  • STAR
  • COIN
  • FOUNTAIN
  • DANDELION
  • EYELASH
  • LADYBUG

Todays spangram is MAKEAWISH. It starts with M in the third row and snakes to H in the sixth row. For puzzle #635, I needed just one hint to finish it. How did you fare?
