The government has introduced a program providing financial assistance to families to help cover back-to-school costs. Families will be eligible to receive support of up to £150 per child for expenses including uniforms, footwear, stationery, and other essential items for children from reception to Year 11.
Payment Details
- Primary school children: £100 per child
- Secondary school children: £150 per child
Payments will be issued as a lump sum to households during the summer holiday. The program is means-tested, with eligibility for families whose combined income does not exceed £75,000 in 2025.
Eligibility and Application Process
Households already receiving Income Support will have the payment automatically applied. Other qualifying families must submit an application through a designated government form. Detailed instructions on the application process will be provided during the summer school term to ensure families can access the funds efficiently.
Government Statement
Deputy Lyndsay Feltham, Minister for Social Security, explained that the initiative is intended to reduce financial pressure on families and guarantee that children across the Island have the necessary school supplies. She emphasized the government's ongoing commitment to assisting households managing the challenges of rising living costs.
Additional Information
The support forms part of a broader effort to provide targeted assistance to families, ensuring equitable access to essential educational resources. Further updates and guidance for applicants will be released as the new school term approaches, helping households understand how to receive the payments. This measure aligns with ongoing efforts to address economic pressures on families while promoting equal educational opportunities.
