Emma Heming, Bruce Willis' wife, opens up about the challenges of celebrating holidays while supporting her husband through his dementia battle.

The holiday season has taken on a new form for the blended Willis family as patriarch Bruce Willis faces frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and primary progressive aphasia (PPA). Emma Heming, Bruces wife, shared with People at the End Well 2025 conference in Los Angeles that the family is focusing on creating new memories while maintaining cherished traditions. You have to learn and adapt and make new memories [but] bring in the same traditions that you had before, she said, emphasizing that life goes on.

Heming, 47, acknowledged the challenges dementia brings but stressed that joy is still present in their lives. She added, I think its important that we dont paint such a negative picture around dementia. We are still laughing. There is still joy. It just looks different.

While Heming did not share specific Thanksgiving plans, she hinted at their Christmas celebrations. Bruce loved Christmas, and we love celebrating it with him, she said, humorously noting that they plan to watch Die Hard, referring to it as a Christmas movie.

The couples everyday life remains straightforward. Heming, who has daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, with Bruce, explained that their focus is on just being able to be present with him. Her stepdaughter, Rumer Willis, echoed this sentiment in an Instagram video, expressing gratitude for still being able to hug her father. She added, Whether he recognizes [me] or not, I believe he recognizes the love. Despite the changes in Bruce, Rumer, 37, appreciates the glimpses of the father she knew and values sharing these moments with her 2-year-old daughter, Louetta.

Bruce shares children Rumer, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 31, with his first wife, Demi Moore. In March 2022, the family revealed that Bruce was experiencing aphasia, which led to his retirement from acting, and later disclosed his FTD diagnosis. In August, Heming shared that she had made the difficult decision to move Bruce into a nearby residence where he could receive round-the-clock care in a safe and comfortable environment suitable for his condition.
