Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, USA, has incorporated the Liberty Endovascular Robotic System from Microbot Medical into its patient care services. In addition, Microbot Medical is collaborating with the hospital to launch an endovascular robotics programme within its interventional radiology department.
The Liberty system is a single-use, remotely operated robotic platform designed for peripheral endovascular procedures and has received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It aims to provide precise vascular navigation while minimizing physical strain and radiation exposure for medical professionals.
Microbot Medical has initiated a limited market release of Liberty and plans a full commercial rollout at the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) conference in April 2026.
At Emory, the Liberty system will assist clinicians with peripheral intervention procedures, including uterine fibroid embolisation, liver tumour embolisation, and prostate artery embolisation. The partnership is intended to advance oncology and endovascular care delivery.
David Prologo, director of Emory University School of Medicines interventional radiology division, stated: Incorporating cutting-edge technologies like Liberty into our interventional radiology programme highlights our commitment to leading technological innovation. We believe its single-use, remotely operated design provides a scalable, practical solution that protects our clinicians and enhances patient access to quality care.
Harel Gadot, CEO, president, and chairman of Microbot Medical, added: This marks a remarkable milestone for Microbot Medical and a significant moment for surgical robotics. We are creating a completely new category in medical robotics with the first FDA-cleared single-use robotic system.
Analysis of Emory University’s Integration of Liberty Endovascular Robotic System
The recent collaboration between Emory University Hospital and Microbot Medical signals a significant leap forward in the field of interventional radiology. By incorporating the Liberty Endovascular Robotic System into its clinical operations, Emory is demonstrating its commitment to utilizing cutting-edge technologies to improve patient outcomes and protect healthcare professionals.
The Liberty system, which has been FDA-cleared, represents a major innovation in the medical robotics field. Designed for peripheral endovascular procedures, it reduces both physical strain and radiation exposure for clinicians while offering enhanced precision in vascular navigation. This combination of benefits is expected to revolutionize the way interventional radiology is practiced, particularly in procedures like uterine fibroid embolization, liver tumor embolization, and prostate artery embolization.
For Microbot Medical, this partnership with Emory University marks a defining moment. With the limited market release of the Liberty system already underway, the company's planned full commercial rollout at the Society of Interventional Radiology conference in 2026 is highly anticipated. As the first FDA-approved single-use robotic platform for endovascular procedures, Liberty’s success could redefine the future of minimally invasive surgeries.
The implementation of the Liberty system at Emory is not just a technological upgrade but a strategic move to provide better access to high-quality care. With an emphasis on scalability and practicality, the partnership holds promise for widespread adoption, potentially transforming the landscape of oncology and endovascular treatment worldwide.
