Father Saves 12-Year-Old Daughter Trapped in Collapsed Sand Hole During Thanksgiving Outing

A 12-year-old girl was safely rescued after becoming trapped in a collapsed sand hole in The Woodlands, Texas, on Thursday, November 27. The girl was completely buried until her father managed to clear sand from around her head, allowing her to breathe.

According to The Woodlands Fire Department (WFD), emergency crews arrived to find only the girl's face and head visible above the sand. Firefighters, medics, and Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the scene at around 5 p.m., roughly 30 miles north of Austin.

The incident occurred on a sand bar along the West Bank of Panther Creek, just south of the pedestrian bridge. The girl had been digging a large hole in the sand during a family outing when it suddenly collapsed.

WFD spokespersons explained that crews quickly stabilized the area and carefully removed the sand to free the girl. Fortunately, she was unharmed and returned to her parents after the rescue. The childs identity has not been released.

Photos from the scene showed first responders using shovels to safely dig around the collapsed hole.
