Senator Ron Johnson has publicly supported a physician known for promoting a dangerous and widely discredited treatment involving bleach. The therapy, falsely claimed to treat conditions such as autism, has been strongly condemned by medical professionals for its severe health risks.
Recent surveys indicate that public confidence in federal health agencies is declining. An Ipsos poll conducted in October revealed that only 54% of participants expressed trust in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), down from 60% in June and 66% in December 2024. Similarly, confidence in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has decreased from 60% to 52% over the same period.
The endorsement of this unproven therapy by a sitting senator has sparked concern among health experts, who warn that promoting such treatments undermines public trust in established medical guidance and safety standards.
