The Nene Park Winter Festival at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough, anticipated to draw thousands of visitors, has been enhanced for greater accessibility, according to the park trust.
The event will continue until 23 December. Last year, over 7,000 attendees visited the festival, despite some activities being cancelled for several days due to high winds, the organisers reported.
To ensure this years festival is less affected by weather, the Nene Park Trust has relocated certain attractions, including Santas meet-and-greet, to the welcome area. This adjustment is intended to make the activity easier for all visitors to enjoy.
The festival program features a band of elves, live entertainment, and a variety of festive food and craft stalls. Additionally, on 10 and 17 December, a Christmas-themed dog show will take place. During the show, pets will compete in activities such as jumping over puddings and weaving through candy canes.
Proceeds from the festival will support the upkeep of the park and fund other local community events, the trust stated.

Author's Analysis: Enhancing Accessibility at the Nene Park Winter Festival
The Nene Park Winter Festival at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough demonstrates a clear commitment to accessibility and visitor experience. By relocating key attractions, such as Santa’s meet-and-greet, to the welcome area, the organisers aim to minimize disruptions caused by weather, a challenge that affected last year’s festival.
This proactive approach is significant given the festival’s popularity, with over 7,000 attendees last year. The inclusion of live entertainment, festive stalls, and themed activities like the Christmas dog show highlights the organisers’ focus on diverse, family-friendly programming.
Importantly, the festival’s proceeds support park maintenance and local community events, reinforcing the broader impact of the event beyond entertainment. This year’s adjustments suggest a more resilient and inclusive experience, encouraging participation from a wider audience and ensuring the festival remains a highlight of the Peterborough holiday season.
